Kentec's 'Ring of Protection' for top Italian health centre
A distributed intelligence system supported by Kentec fire control panels, all connected by a serial ring network to a central control room, is the ‘Ring of Protection’ that safeguards the Sacred Heart Hospital complex in Negrar, considered the finest Healthcare Centre in Northern Italy.
This important hospital with provision for up to 1000 beds and serving more than a million outpatients a year is situated in the renowned Valpolicella wine region, 12km from Verona.
Supported by the very latest diagnostic technology, and staffed by specialists in the major branches of medicine and surgery, such a sensitive environment demands the highest level of fire detection, a specification fulfilled by the new integrated system installed by D.E.S. s.r.l. of Verona.
The structure of the hospital departmental units, each specializing in a specific operative function, has been utilized by implementing the fire detection system serially from one building to the next, in a protective ring network. The system includes eighteen Kentec 4-loop Syncro analogue addressable fire control panels, and four Sigma XT extinguishing panels, with the system integrated via 300 Hochiki interface modules to over 4000 Hochiki detection devices, supported by Hochiki’s noise immune open protocol fire data communications.
All the Syncro panels are networked with Kentec’s Network configuration card for addressing each unit, and connected to the PC in the Control Room with Kentec’s GUIDE graphics software package, which presents a ‘virtual’ fire alarm control panel fascia on the PC display to permit control of the fire alarm system through a complete overview of hospital fire zones and events.
