Hochiki Protects The Educational and Research Hospital in Ankara, Turkey.

The Educational and Research Hospital is a facility of Turkish Ministry of Health. It is one of the oldest in Turkey, known for its level of expertise. The hospital serves patients in Ankara as well as in the neighbouring regions, and incorporates all necessary medical departments.

The hospital consists of head medical building, the administrative, polyclinics, teeth treatment and first aid - 5 blocks in total. The buildings have historical value because of oldness and are all protected by Hochiki - Kentec fire alarm control system.

One of the important requirements for the fire alarm system project was compliance with the EN 54. Special attention was paid to parts of buildings carrying the highest risk of fire occurrence, including space above false ceilings where cables transmitting power supply and data pass. The hospital is protected by three 4-loop Kentec Syncro panels, 1200 Hochiki ALG-E smoke detectors and 50 Hochiki CHQ modules for building automation purposes.

The AutoCAD building plans were processed on PC for use in Syncro Guide program, thus enabling graphical monitoring of the whole system. By use of Hochiki interface modules automation features such as moving down lifts to ground floor and keeping their doors open, activating voice evacuation system, detecting gas leakage in kitchen and boiler room, integration with CCTV system to monitor fire alarm locations were provided.

As regards the integration of fire alarm control system with the CCTV surveillance, it was the first such implementation in Ankara for this kind of large hospital. The fire alarm control system utilises 40 CHQ-R relay modules to control 180 cameras, which monitor all parts of the hospital continuously for 24 hours a day. Fire detectors installed in the same location as specific cameras were grouped and joined by cause-effect with the modules controlling the cameras. The fire alarm control panel detecting a fire event from one location activates the relevant relay module, which, on its turn providing input signal for CCTV control panel, commands the camera or cameras to show the fire alarm location. Thus, guards watching the video surveillance monitors can view fire alarm locations without going there; this provides taking faster actions in response to fire. Moreover, in fire event local voice evacuation system warns the hospital personnel and patients and directs them to exits.
