Fire safety at new Cardiff stadium achieves perfect pitch
The new Cardiff City stadium is a 26,828 all-seated sport and concert venue that’s home to Cardiff City FC and Cardiff Blues Rugby Union team. This state of the art modern complex includes a members’ club with VIP bars, restaurant and corporate hospitality facilities.
For such an important new stadium it follows that public safety is of the highest concern, with a sophisticated fire safety system integrated to a public address voice alarm (PAVA) system, providing secure, fail-safe, emergency speech broadcast at all times. Designers and integrators of the L5 system, Cardiff based Tiger Fire and Security Ltd., specified four, four-loop, Kentec Syncro Fire Control Panels with full optimisation of detection circuit lengths (a total of 20km being used for both the Fire and PAVA Systems) and maximum hosting of open protocol fire detection devices.
The fire system, integrated to a 500-speaker PAVA system, protects public areas, including concourses and concessions, together with back-of-house areas such as changing rooms and offices. The system complies fully with BS 5839 Parts 1, 8 and 9, defining fire detection and fire alarm systems and voice alarm systems, and with the Green Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds.
Gareth Pezzack of Tiger Fire and Security Ltd., commenting on the new installation, says: ‘With Kentec’s Loop Explorer configuration software, complex cause-and-effect programming is efficiently achieved. What’s more, the open protocol structure smoothes the path for future-proof system expansion, with the additional benefit of choice and flexibility when maintenance or servicing is reviewed.’
